Asthma Emergency Department Visit Rate

City/Place: Union City
Measurement Period: 2016-2018
This indicator shows the age-adjusted rate for asthma emergency department visits per 100,000 population.

Why is this important?

Asthma is a chronic lung condition that causes swelling, excess mucus, and narrowing of the airways. An asthma attack occurs when the airways become so swollen and clogged that the person has trouble getting enough air to breathe. Chronic conditions such as asthma can affect the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of young children. Although the exact cause of asthma is not known, the development of asthma is determined by the interaction between genetics and environmental exposures.
