Coronary Heart Disease Hospitalization Rate

City/Place: Pleasanton
Measurement Period: 2012-2014
This indicator shows the age-adjusted Coronary Heart Disease visit rate per 100,000 population.

Why is this important?

Coronary Heart Disease develops when the arteries of the heart become narrow or clogged and cannot supply enough oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the heart muscle.  If the blood supply to the heart muscle is inadequate, a person may experience chest pain or pressure called angina. A heart attack (myocardial infarction) occurs when the blood supply to parts of the heart muscle is cut off completely.  CHD is the most common cause of death in the United States, accounting for more than one of every six deaths.
